What Is a Body Fat Calculator?

A body fat calculator is a free online tool that estimates the percentage of your total body weight that is fat — versus lean mass including muscle, bone, organs, and water. Unlike BMI, which only compares weight to height, body fat percentage reveals your actual body composition, making it a far more precise measure of health, fitness level, and cardiovascular risk.

How to Calculate Body Fat Percentage — US Navy Method

Our calculator uses the clinically validated US Navy body fat formula — the most widely used circumference-based method, developed at the Naval Health Research Center:

Men: % Body Fat = 86.010 × log₁₀(waist − neck) − 70.041 × log₁₀(height) + 36.76

Women: % Body Fat = 163.205 × log₁₀(waist + hip − neck) − 97.684 × log₁₀(height) − 78.387

Measurements needed (in cm or inches):

  • Height, Waist circumference (at navel), Neck circumference
  • Women additionally: Hip circumference (at widest point)

Example: A man with height 178 cm, waist 85 cm, neck 38 cm → estimated 17.4% body fat → Fitness category ✅
